Welcome to NIHR BRC Digital Therapies
There are over 10 million people with mental health and/or long-term conditions in the UK and this number is increasing. The aim of the NIHR BRC Digital Therapies theme is to help bridge shortfalls and close gaps in NHS service provisions for these people with digital solutions.
To achieve this, there needs to be acceleration in the development and implementation of evidence-based novel digital therapies and greater in precision for target users through tailored interventions for sub-groups.
One major challenge is that UK regulation is evolving and complex to navigate. The ongoing Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) Software and Artificial Intelligence as a Medical Device Change Programme (start date: 26 June 2022, end date: unspecified) affects every step of the digital therapy life cycle. Knowing what is required at the design stage is essential to avoid costly and time-consuming mistakes with serious and potentially legal implications.
This webpage provides an interactive route map to help with the navigation of the digital therapies landscape in the UK.
